Xrig is part of a new consortium that will investigate the possibilities for extracting geothermal energy in Øygarden.
Geothermal energy is based on a principle where wells are drilled to collect heat from the ground. There are currently no projects for the extraction of geothermal energy in Norway, and that’s something we want to change.
Geothermal energy today has great technological development and provides stable and green energy. The interventions in nature are minimal and the well stands for 100 years without the same requirements for service and maintenance that are needed in most other forms of energy extraction.
The new consortium is public-private, consisting of Odfjell Technology, CCB, Eviny, Baker Hughes, Xrig, Vestland County Council, Grønn region Vestland, Bergen municipality and Øygarden municipality.
